So far through this Costume and Makeup Design course, I have learned a great deal about how much people and fictional characters can communicate through certain styles, colors, and articles of clothing. In people's daily lives, they may or may not consider how much they use clothing to judge other's moods or assume someone's character off of what they wear. For example, fictional characters who mainly wear darker colors, are often portrayed as villainous, unpleasant, and evil. I believe that this occurs in reality as well. Darker colors tend to evoke the feeling of trying to hide away, uncomfortable emotions, or not wanting to be noticed by others. Certain styles may also show people's/character's economic status, such as wearing designer brands to indicate that they are wealthier. Wearing certain articles of clothing at unusual places or during unusual times also evokes certain images or feelings, such as wearing sunglasses on a cloudy day may make people question things about the person or character and if they are trying to hide. Overall, there are many ways costumes or clothing can produce images or feelings in the viewer's minds.
